Helpful Tips For SEO

By on January 22, 2015

A lot of SEO is common sense. You will probably discover that you are already good at some things and that you have a learning curve on others. The information in this article is designed to be helpful as you begin to learn and take advantage of SEO strategies.

Domain Names Matter

SEOWhen choosing a domain name, try and pick one that has one of your keywords included. The name should describe what your company is about. For example, if your company sells tech gadgets, Joe’s Page will not help people find you but Joe’s Tech Gadgets will because it includes the companies purpose in the domain name.

Practice Patients

It’s hard, but boosting SEO value takes time. Large changes in traffic volume will not immediately happen. It can take a lot of time if you are new to this. It will take time for your online business to establish a name, just like traditional businesses.

TIP! Pick a domain name that is full of your chosen keywords. The easier your website is to find through search engines, the better your traffic will be.

Don’t Forget the Meta Tag

To get better rankings with the search engines, populate your “metatag” area with a variety of keywords. Even better, include misspellings of your keywords. The search engine spiders will “crawl” these tags and find your site relevant to the keywords, bumping up your site in the list of search results. For example, if your site is about eyeglasses, include in your metatag both “glasses” and “glases,” “eyeglasses” and “eye glasses,” etc.

Complete Your Header Tag

Header tags are quite important. Sometimes these headers can be too big, but you can use CSS to change the size. The major search engines use the headers for ranking websites. If you have useful bits of information, mark them in an H1 or H2 tag.

TIP! Try using product feeds to get more customers coming into your website. The feeds will actually list different details about services and products, like images, as well as prices and descriptions.

Site Map

If you want to have successful SEO results, you need a sitemap. Spiders use the sitemap to find out information regarding your website. The larger the site, the more maps it needs. You don’t want more than 100 different links for each map.

The First Sentence Matters

Descriptive introductions help search engine spiders better catalog your site. Use 60 characters of fewer because search engines typically will not display any more content than that. The search engines will also give much less weight to any terms after the 60 characters.

TIP! Try not to go overboard when it comes to keywords. Focus on the important phrases that can improve your rank.

Mastering the art of SEO means that you should also understand all of the different types of social media that are popular. There are many more social networking sites besides Twitter and Facebook. Some of the sites will even allow you to cater to a certain group. Join any that seem relevant to your niche, and use it as a method to promote your services or products and improve your ranking.
